Information

This 1932 Duesenberg Model J Tourster was built in the style of Derham, one of the most respected coachbuilders of the era. Derham, founded in 1887 in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, was known for its flexibility and craftsmanship, creating more than 40 custom bodies for Duesenberg. Their designs impressed E.L. Cord so much that he appointed Philip Derham to lead Duesenberg’s Custom Coachwork Division.

In the 1970s, enthusiast Ted Billings of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, set out to recreate what he considered the most majestic Duesenberg, the Derham Tourster. Working with Amesly Body Shop in Pennsylvania, he produced between five and seven of these bodies using authentic Model J parts saved from destruction. This particular car features a factory-rebuilt engine, indicated by the “X” designation.

It was sold by Worldwide Auctioneers in Auburn in September 2021 for $665,000.
