This 1930 Duesenberg Model J is a Torpedo Convertible Coupe built by Murphy, one of only six Duesenbergs purchased by George Whittell Jr., the son of the founder of Pacific Gas & Electric. Whittell was known for his extravagant lifestyle and owned vast property on Lake Tahoe’s east shore, including the famous Thunderbird Lodge and the 55-foot Thunderbird yacht.
The first known photo of this car dates back to 1974 when it was in the hands of Dr. Erle M. Heath of Pennsylvania. By 1988, it had become part of the collection of John Mozart, a prominent Silicon Valley real estate developer.
